Beijing Capital International Airport: 40 billion yuan reconstruction and expansion plan was launched

　　Beijing Capital International Airport has launched a $40 billion expansion plan to build a new fourth runway and reconstruct its three terminals and integrated transportation system. This is another comprehensive "upgrade" for the airport shortly after Beijing Daxing International Airport goes into operation in September 2019.

　　Liu Xuesong, General Manager of Capital Airport Group and Chairman of Beijing Capital International Airport Company Limited, said that the airport will invest nearly 40 billion yuan to build a new fourth runway, renovate the three terminals and extend the rail line to the new China International Exhibition Centre (hereinafter referred to as "the new China National Exhibition") in Shunyi District to become a The project will be a more complete international aviation hub. The total investment in the project is initially estimated at RMB 38.8 billion, and is expected to reach RMB 40 billion, with 40 projects, including the construction of a new fourth runway, the renovation of T1, T2 and T3 terminals, and the construction of integrated transport facilities.

　　The Capital International Airport has handled more than 100 million passengers for the second consecutive year in 2018 and 2019, and is the second airport in the world to have more than 100 million passengers, after Atlanta Airport in the United States.

　　Beijing Daxing Airport completed a total of 3.13 million passengers in 2019. According to Yao Yabo, deputy general manager of Capital Airport Group Corporation and general director of Beijing New Airport Construction Command, the passenger throughput of Daxing Airport is estimated at 30 million in 2020, with an optimistic possibility of reaching 38 million, and a possible 45 million in 2021.

　　Compared to the luxurious integrated transport system at Daxing Airport, the integrated transport facilities at Capital Airport are dwarfed. According to Liu Xuesong, this time, the capital airport has invested heavily in renovation and upgrading. In addition to the interconnection between the internal terminals, strengthening the construction of rail transport outside the capital airport is also one of the important elements of the renovation plan.

　　Currently, the Beijing Metro Capital Airport Line is the only rail line leading to the Capital International Airport. In order to increase the share of rail transport to the Capital International Airport, in addition to promoting the construction of a "cloud rail" to connect T1, T2 and T3, and extend it to the new National Exhibition to connect with Metro Line 15, and to speed up the northern extension of the R4 rail line.
