Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, located in Changning District, Shanghai, China, 13 km from the city centre, is a Class 4E civilian international airport, one of the three major gateway complex hubs in China, an international scheduled airport, a Class 1 air port open to the public and an international flight standby airport.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was built in 1921 and rebuilt in 1950; in 1971, it was converted from a civilian-military use to a civil aviation use; in 2010, Terminal 2 and the second runway were opened. The airport has one runway and one taxiway, with a runway of 3,400 metres long and 57.6 metres wide, an apron of 486,000 square metres and a total of 66 aircraft slots; 15 waiting halls, 18 VIP lounges and 15 baggage transfer systems. The average number of flights per day is around 540.
In 2008, Beijing Jing Hang An Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. constructed the first and second runway cover of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, as well as the visual aids to navigation and apron lighting project for the airport expansion, which stood out among many high-quality projects with its exquisite construction techniques and unique construction highlights. From 2011 to 2012, the project was awarded the "Shanghai Municipal Engineering Golden Cup Award" and the "China Municipal Engineering Golden Cup Award".
