Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is located in the former Diankou Village of Jiaodong Street, Jiaozhou City, Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China, 11 km southwest from the centre of Jiaozhou City, 39 km southeast from the centre of Qingdao City, 28 km from Qingdao Liuting International Airport, as a 4F international airport, a regional hub airport, and a gateway airport to Japan and Korea.

On 26 June 2015, the foundation stone of Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport was laid and the new airport was named Qingdao Jiaodong Airport on 21 November 2018.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport has a terminal building with an area of 478,000 square metres, 97 boarding bridges, 178 aircraft slots on the apron, 76 of which are near slots, two runways, both 3,600 metres long and 45 metres and 60 metres wide respectively, and can meet the demand of 35 million passengers, 500,000 tonnes of cargo and mail throughput and 298,000 aircraft movements in 2025.

Since December 2015, Beijing Jing Hangan Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. has been engaged in the construction of the aviation lighting, apron lighting, air traffic control, air traffic control and low voltage system projects for Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport. In 2018, the project department was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Collective in Labour Competition" by the Airport Command.
