Liberia, located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea in western Africa, is a very backward African country. With a GDP per capita of just over US$400, it is one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world. After years of civil war and the Ebola epidemic, Liberia needs to recuperate, develop its economy and improve its livelihoods, and it needs a new airport terminal to act as an "international face", giving every traveller entering Liberia a sense of confidence in the land under their feet.
Liberia's only international airport, Roberts International Airport, is an important hub connecting Europe and the United States to the rest of the world, but it has only one runway, and after years of war, it has long been out of use. In order to give the world a better impression of Liberia's determination to develop its economy, in 2016 Liberia launched a project to renovate and upgrade Roberts International Airport, including a new terminal building with a total construction area of 5,000 square meters, a 1,500 square meter car park, as well as supporting internal airport connecting roads, supporting electricity, communications, water supply and drainage, fire-fighting and pollutant treatment facilities, etc. Since the start of construction, the project has received great attention from the Liberian government, institutions in Liberia and international organizations.
The project will last for 12 months, from March 2017 to May 2018.
